An Erroneous Statement
Title
An Erroneous Statement
Subject
No Smallpox among the Soldiers at Havana - No Quarantine Regulations
Description
Camp Columbia, near Havana, Jan. 13 1899.
Having seen an item copied from the press dispatches in the home papers, I take it upon myself to contradict the statement that there are any cases of smallpox in our regiment or among the Seventh Army Corps, and the North Carolina regiment is not quarantined from Havana or surrounding territory. There was a supposed case of smallpox in the Indiana regiment, but it was a faked up case, and no quarantine was established. Those who have friends and relatives here need feel no uneasiness on account of the dread pestilence up to the present writing.
there are some cases of smallpox in the southern part of Cuba, but the infected districts are far from where we are located.
