John Bellamy to Marion Butler

Title

John Bellamy to Marion Butler

Description

Dear Sir,

I write to you on behalf of Mrs. John A. Thees of this city, who is a widow with a small family and whose chief support is her boy Geo. B. Thees now just 19 years old and a member of Company K, Capt. D. McRae of Wilmington, forming a part of the Second Regiment now in camp at Raleigh.
Mrs. Thees and her son George are both anxious to have the latter released from his enlistment in said company. He is a young boy of delicate health and has been sick for about a week in Raleigh, though at last accounts he was some better.
The boy is very anxious for the discharge and it is almost an absolute nessecity that his mother should have his services.
Will you please exercise your influence with the War Department to secure his discharge and you will be performing an act of humanity in so doing. Mrs. Thees will be exceedingly grateful to you and I will take it as a personal favor to me.
I am not at all versed in military regulations and hardly know how to proceed to secure this young man's release, but I am informed to-day that a young man by the name of Waddel, also a member of this same Company, who is a native of Bennettsville S.C. secured his discharge through some influence brought to bear by the Senator from South Carolina.
I hope you may be able to serve this lady, and her friends will highly appriciate it. Hoping you are well, and with my best wishes and regards,
I am
John Bellamy
